Have only a week? This itinerary is perfect for a quick get-a-way to explore the beautiful city of Cape Town, one of the world's most scenic destinations, nestled at the foot of Table Mountain.
South Africa is a long way off but is worth the effort and the distance. In this short trip, you stay at the trendy President Protea Hotel, spend a full day touring the Cape Peninsula, half day at the fabulous South Africa Winelands, as well as time to see Cape Town on your own.
The day-tour to Cape Peninsula takes you out of the city along the Atlantic sea-board to the fishing port of Hout Bay, where you can partake in an optional boat excursion to Seal Island to view a colony of Cape Fur Seals. From Hout Bay continue over Chapman's Peak Drive (weather conditions permitting) to the Cape Point Nature reserve, the south-western most tip of Africa. Here you will have time to explore the awe-inspiring scenery from all the vantage points, as well as the opportunity to visit the Cape of Good Hope. You will have time for lunch (for your own account) before starting the return journey to the city. En route you will have the possibility for an optional visit to the penguin colony on Boulder's Beach before visiting the naval town of Simon's Town. Your last stop of the day will be the world renowned Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.
Your excursion to Cape Winelands can either be taken during the morning or the afternoon, starting with a wine tasting, cellar tour and cheese tasting at Anura Wine estate, and continue to Stellenbosch for a historical drive through the city with a walking opportunity.
During free days, you will want to explore the city - in the summer months you may want to head to the magnificent beaches that litter the city and suburbs. Head to the palm lines promenade of Camps Bay or the uber-trendy 4 beaches of Clifton for people watching! One final day in this beautiful city, for you to catch up on the last minute sightseeing and shopping. Head for the quaint Greenmarket Square for local arts and crafts, or the vibrant V&A Waterfront for designer labels. Try to get to the famous Two Oceans Aquarium, located in the V&A Waterfront, it's well worth a visit. You have a one day hop-on-hop-off bus pass to help you get around.
